CASE STUDY: PROJECT MANAGEMENT
|
CHALLENGE
The client had an innovative idea for an in-house tool to help their chemistry departments. A multidisciplinary team was required to push forward the product delivery.
This would have to include internal and external IT developers, medicinal chemists, computational chemists, informaticians and graphic designers, situated across 3
different countries. The company required a project manager with the scientific, IT and visualisation expertise to bring their concepts to fruition.
|
SOLUTION
Full brief taken from informaticians to understand the concepts they had in their minds and translate them into a spreadsheet of requirements for further interactive
prioritisation. Assisted in brainstorming the bigger picture of what the tool should do. Briefed the designers and IT to design and implement a basic prototype.
This involved giving input to the prototype from an in-depth understanding of the original concept and knowledge in what would be useful to the chemistry end-users.
The next step was to present the concepts and prototype to the chemists and collate their feedback to fine tune requirements. Forums were coordinated to manage
conflicting aspirations therefore aligning expectation for the next iterative cycle of development. Value was added to Amethyst's original role by getting involved
in additional tasks, such as continuously testing new functionality.
|
IMPACT
Successfully delivered this innovative in-house tool on time with positive feedback from the client. A comprehensive report was written, which ensures no ideas for further
phases will be lost. The report engaged the in-house team, which sparked excitement in future development of the tool. Amethyst was invited back for the next phase of the
project which again successfully delivered.
